In 2003, a7.ausstellungen e.V. was founded as an interdisciplinary team of curators on the initiative of Kathleen Hahneman und Isabel Feifel in winter 2003. It mainly consists of students of “cultural studies“ at the university of Hildesheim.

A7.ausstellungen is constantly trying to seek out young and emerging artists and to develop new concepts for art exhibitions in a dialogue with current art movements and discourses. Therefore, visits at artists’ studios, galleries and museums are just as much a vital part of the activities of a7.ausstellungen as the organisation of particular exhibitions and projects.

Each concept demands a different approach to the exhibition space. Since a7.ausstellungen does not have a fixed place to stage its exhibitions, each project is also about opening up new exhibition sites and the individual potentials of a room in interaction with the art exhibited in it. A creative cooperation with the students of architecture, lightning design and graphic design here at Hildesheim is part of .

A7.ausstellungen wants to act as a link between art and public. Apart from the promotion of young artists, a7.ausstellungen wants to make the various contents and topics adressed by contemporary art approachable to a wider publix, this being a focal point of its activities.
Moreover, we want to stay on top of changes in the practice of art and its theory through the experimentation with innovative ways of exhibiting art and mediating its contents to the public. In this connection, we believe in the social relevance of art, its mission and function as an indicator of social changes and as an indispensable device to sharpen our perception and to raise our awareness of frictions and connections between heterogeneous elements.
